Morning Edition host, Kathleen Gustafson was given only a few guidelines and a lot of creative freedom.

She called on the talents of several of her theater friends to produce most of these spots. We were not disappointed.

KBBI's One-Day Drive Promos

KBBI listeners were treated to some humorous promotional spots in the days before the highly successful Spring 2006 One-Day Drive. (All are 30 seconds)

Listener response was overwhelming. Many of them cited the fun pre-drive entertainment as one of the reasons they pledged. The promise of six pitch-free days helped, too.

Afterwards there were many pre-recorded thank you spots. Next time we'll use more humorous ones. This one was recorded on a lark, but we used it anyway. We wish we had more in the character of the pre-drive spots.

What did the drive sound like? Here's the opening pitch in mp3 format. Joe Gallagher and David Webster came out of radio retirement to lead the charge into unknown territory.

"My dad still has a job!" (15 seconds)

Staff Debrief (pdf) - 2 1/2 weeks after the day of the drive, KBBI staff gathered to discuss the drive. It was a chance to examine the success and possible improvements. The ideas are relatively free-form, and we've added some background information. We were extremely happy with the results, but we've committed to improving the way we remain listener focused in fundraising. This report is still in a rough form.
