Through the Wall and Over Tree

By Jessica Coke

It was a dark and stormy night, in the hall of my thirteen story house. It was the kind of house that makes one wonder if there was something dead in the house.

My name is April Claudia Jones, daughter of Professor C. Jones, the rich local scientist of New York City. I'm sixteen and a sophomore at East River High. I'm an A+ student.

If you asked my eleven-year old brother, Peter about me, he would say, "Two words, stuck up." (He's a good brother if you like dead ferrets thawing in your bed.)

I was walking through the hall and my friends, Debbie, Sally, Marcy... but where was Emily?

"Where's Emily?" I asked.

"She's gone." Said Debbie.

"I know she's gone!!!" I shouted. "But where is she?" I said through clenched teeth.

"Well we don't know."Said Sally.

"Rrg." I growled. "Come with me."

We flopped down the stairs as quickly as we could. We stopped before Peter's room. "This could be very damaging to our personal hygiene, so be prepared for anything."

This time it was a mouse. Marcy, Debbie, and I all love mice, Sally on the other hand, is totally scared of them. So as soon as it ran out of Peter's room, Sally fainted.

Peter came running out with his cowboy hat. "Hey y'all, what's all the ruckus?" he asked. "By the way, Emily was down the hall last I saw." He said.

Marcy, Debbie and I looked at him in disgust. Sally didn't look at him at all. We were all trying to balance Sally.

"Oh yeah, if you need cold water to dump on Sally's head, I have some in my..."

Marcy cut him off, "That's really ok, thank you."

Marcy, you get Sally's left arm, Debbie, you get her legs, I'll get her right arm." I said, "Now run down the hall to the pot of flowers." When we got there we set Sally down. I got the flowers out of the pot very carefully and set them on the table. I poured the water on Sally's head. She woke up with a start!

"OK, what's going on?" she asked.

"No time to explain. Come on!" I said. We ran down the hall.

We spotted Emily. We watched in horror as our friend turned the corner and bumped into a glowing blue ball. It dragged her through the wall. She was gone, the thing disappeared. We walked to the wall and felt all over it. Just then, the blue thing pushed us through the wall.

Next thing I knew, I was on top of a perfect tree. I looked down. I saw blue balls like the one in my house.

"You must find your friends quickly. Then you will come back and test the food I make." He said in his high-pitched echoing voice.

"We really need to get back to my house." I said. "So if you don't mind..." I was cut off by the ball.

"If you don't mind, what?" He growled slowly. "You will do as I say, and you will do it now!!! And if you are not back here with them by sunset, you will all die!!!"

We went back to the tree. A door in the tree opened slowly. Two blue balls gestured to us to go inside the huge tree. They closed the wood door. The two blue balls kept straight faces. When we got inside, they went to a huge cage. They opened the big door. I couldn't believe what I saw.

The two blue balls got out silly party hats and started laughing. "Hey, boss!" said the first ball. They're here!"

"Oh good number one." He said excitedly. "Who's up for cookies and tea?!"

"Me!!!!!" everyone shouted.

"Hey let's invite Oprah! Shouted The Huge Blue Ball.

When Oprah got here we all shared our feelings.

"My name isn't really The Huge Blue Ball, it's Bob." Said the big blue ball.

"Let the hugging and crying begin!" said Oprah.
